Film - Samuel Beckett (directed by Alan Schneider) (1965)
An interesting movie on Berkeley’s idealism that is summarized by the famous statement «Esse est percipi» (To be is to be perceived).
The movie begins with a giant eye which sees everything, it can be considered to symbolize God in Berkeley’s philosophy. During the movie, the main character, in order not to be anymore, tries to avoid all subjects who perceive him . Namely, he seems to avoid his existence by trying not to be perceived by anyone. Film can be read as the story of his hopeless struggle against his own being and of the desperate attempt to escape existence itself because of the impossibility of evasion of being perceived.
